Am I Nuts Or What?

No, please. Don't answer that question up there! I'll tell you myself!

I got caught up in race fever yesterday and registered for the Rock 'n Roll Latin Music Miami Beach Half Marathon (or whatever they're calling it). I'm calling it sheer stupidity. . . or a brilliant moment in my running career. You see, MegaNerd recommended the RnR series and Wifey said she was going to run Miami! It was peer pressure, pure and simple!!

As you read in my previous post, I'm running my second half marathon on December 11, 2011 right here in beautiful ocean-front West Palm Beach, FL. I ran my first half in February in Ft. Lauderdale and had a great time! So, yes, I'm hooked!

Well, crazy kilted runnerman, what have you done?! Omigosh, I just set myself up to run two, yes 2, half marathons on consecutive Sundays. Yes, back-to-back! If that's not asking for a heap of hurtin' I don't know what it is then.

I took advantage of the RnR registration special on Veterans Day to sign up for Miami Beach. Yup, got my $20 savings. . . but I think my Advil, Ben-Gay, and Icy Hot is gonna cost me more than that just to get ready for the second race.

Maybe I just need to see a therapist or a running counselor, because that's just plain nuts! Wouldn't you agree!

And on the subject of nuts, I'm looking for a full marathon sometime next year. I'm running the A1A ft. Lauderdale Marathon again in February. So, I'm looking for something far out at the end of the Florida racing season. I DON'T want to be training for a marathon, with all of those long runs, in hot, humid weather, which can rear it's ugly little head here in South Florida anytime after March.

The race I'm considering (mainly because it's after school is out and I'm hoping it'll still be cool enough to run) is Grandma's Marathon in Duluth, MN in June. I've read about it in Runner's World, I've seen the ads, and I've checked the average temps for Duluth in June. I mean it's way up there at the tippy-tip top of Lake Superior, which holds all of that cold winter weather forever. Aren't they able to sled and ski and ice skate into July? It's still got to be cool in June, right?

OK, well, if anyone knows of a cool-ish marathon somewhere in May or June, please send me that info. I've been caught up in my own running frenzy for the past year and a half and I need to know if I can do a full marathon. I mean, jeez, 26.2 miles? Seems like a lot, except for those days when I get out for a long run and I feel like I can go forever. I know, I know, I can't go forever, but if you're a runner you understand what I mean.

What is your favorite race? What race would you recommend to a friend?

The Premiere

Yes, it's true! Sadly, perhaps.

I've decided to write a blog. Hopefully it will be somewhat interesting to stoppers-by as I chronicle my journey toward running a half-marathon in December and another in February.

I'm midway through my 16-week plan leading up to the Palm Beaches Marathon on December 4, 2011. This is my hometown race, which I’d hoped to run last year. However, I had just started running in March 2010 and hadn’t built up a sufficient base yet. So I have high expectations – both for my race and for this blog.

I intend for this blog to document my quest. Wow, sounds so medieval, doesn’t it? I’m hoping it will be fun, maybe informative. Anyway, it’ll be as honest as possible.

Speaking of honest, I’m running off to bed as I have some speedwork to do early in the AM. At least the cooler weather has reached south Florida, finally

Please stop by real soon!
